Idealism and Experience
I have always tried to respect and to learn from the invaluable experience of the elderly. Therefore, I also tell the younger never to discard the efforts of those who preceded them while keeping their innovative spirit. Without them, we would not have reached—despite all obstacles—the singular level of modernity, at times unbalanced, in our world (see the pollution that makes inattentive crowds sick). However, let us enrich the partnership between people of all ages for the Good, without forgetting that the existence and action of the Spiritual World are unquestionable. And what is more: that the perfect connection with the Celestial Spheres is essential and is established through the prayer enlightened by Fraternal Love—since “God is Love” (First Epistle of John 4:8), never hatred—and through the dignified actions that correspond to that connection with our Guardian Angels. Without that, the constant progress that is seen from generation to generation will be limited and filled with painstaking dramas from the frustrations that the materially-centered development will cause.
It is urgent, then, to understand that above all we are Spirit. That explains why the statement by Jesus that follows is no vain poetry, but reality that must, for both collective and personal good, be fostered as the permanent flame in our journey: “I am the vine; you are the branches. . . . Apart from me you can do nothing.” (The Gospel according to John, 15:5)
I again address those who have reached the age of 60 and above. And I fraternally emphasize that you should never retire from life. Quite the opposite, act as wise, open-minded elderly, with an idealistic vitality to make healthy and brave youngsters envious in a good way.
