“Prayer for Tranquility” completes 20 years
One of the purposes of the composition “Prayer for Tranquility” (1999) from the Oratorio O Mistério de Deus Revelado* [The Mystery of God Revealed] is to be a musical piece that is capable of connecting the creature to his or her Creator and awakening in them the most sublime feelings, regardless of their philosophy or belief. The composer of the work, Paiva Netto, says, “I’m not composing music just for the sake of music. I’m doing it also to preach the Christ’s ever-renewing message. The moral message of this Oratorio is that when we’re in tune with God, in harmony with Christ’s Love, everything becomes possible for us. This is an Oratorio for the people.”
As the title of the Oratorio suggests, its main message, which permeates all the other compositions, is the revelation of the ‘secret’ of God, which according to Paiva Netto was revealed by Jesus, the Ecumenical Christ, the Divine Statesman: “A New Commandment I give you: Love one another, as I have loved you. Only by this shall all of you be recognized as my disciples, if you have the same Love for one another. . . . There is no greater Love than to lay down his own Life for his friends. . . . As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Remain in my Love.” (The Gospel of Christ according to John 13:34 and 35; 15:13 and 9)
